portland: to see

There are so many amazing things about Portland I don't really know where to begin. Amazing food, fabulous shops, gardens, hiking, anything you could ask for. We loved walking through downtown each day and then were amazed that just miles outside of downtown was the enormous Forest Park. It was amazing that within minutes of being in the city you could be hiking parts of the 70 miles of trails in this park. What a perfect getaway. We found lots of inspiring things to do while there but here are a few of the highlights.

I had no idea how fascinating a Japanese Garden could be until we visited this one. So peaceful, lovely and inspiring. Check the schedule before you go because they have free walking tours throughout the day that are fascinating.

We are all smiles here! After days of staying downtown we were so pleased to find this little breath of fresh air. We could have hiked these trails all day and felt like we were in the middle of a forest not miles from a noisy downtown.

Another outdoor adventure! I can see why so many people love Portland after going through these photos again. We loved visiting the Rose Garden and yes, I believe we smelt them all.

Maybe Jim's favorite stop of the trip. He has been wanting to visit Voodoo Doughnuts for years and his dreams finally came true. Not only did we stop for a doughnut, we stopped for a dozen.
