hannah's island home

Hannah is another unexpected friend I made over the last year. We found each other through blogging and then to my luck she moved one island over from where I live. It seems like such a small world sometimes! She is working on the beautiful Little St. Simons Island and I cannot wait to visit and see what it is like over there. I am looking forward to getting to know her better now that we a neighbors. If you want to see more of her fabulous island life check out her blog Saltwort Chronicles. Today Hannah is sharing her favorite space in her new, island home.

My home is new, only living here for a little over a month. It's more like a beach, bungalow apartment set amid the oaks and cedars on a remote island off the coast of Georgia. This little home is a nice place to get away from the humidity and bugs and just relax! My very favorite feature of my home is the built-in desk area where I can lose myself in my artwork, browse the web, read, and write. There are so many built-in shelves, drawers, closets, and pantries to put everything away, neatly and out of sight. I have a place for all my art supplies, but evidently they just all end up on the desk while I'm working. The ceilings are high and there are huge windows that let in a lot of natural light, it's a very light and refreshing space. I've always been the type of person to showcase many trinkets and have things out to look at, but since I recently moved here, I don't have many things decorated. As much as I love neutrals, I like having pops of colors. The two Mexican candelabras add the perfect pop of color to my desk space. I recently found them at a consignment shop and instantly knew they had to be mine. Since the beach is 2 miles away I have collected several shells, most of which have gone to good use as a palette for my watercolors and gouache. I think it is important to find a space where you can drown yourself in your work/hobby. And this space does it for me!"
