I have been trying very hard for the past year to grow my hair out. I look at pictures like these and think of how lovely it would be one day to do amazing braided up-do's. Then I started to realize a few things about myself and the first was that I really don't like messing with my hair. For some reason I thought that maybe if I had the lovely, long locks then all the sudden I would want to take the extra 20-30 minutes to make something amazing with them. I don't think that was very realistic.

Second, I came to grips with my hair type. I have straight hair that sometimes if it's really dirty is kind of sort of wavy. What does that mean? It means I either have to curl it so its curly or straighten it so its straight. Rarely can my hair just be and not look a mess. I gave it all the time in the world to try and have natural waves but it just won't. At best I have a cowlick or two.

Finally, I realized I just don't feel like myself with long hair. I am a short hair kind of gal. I love being able to wake up and go. I love to accessorize short hair. I love that it makes me stand out and I love the confidence it gives me. So I did it. I finally decided to chop it off and I couldn't be happier. I woke up today put on a headband and walked out the door and felt better than I've felt in months! As silly as it sounds I feel like myself again. Do you think hair can have that big of an impact?

  1. Haircuts have a huge impact on me! I spent all my childhood with the longest hair ever, and had them cut really short when I was 13. Since then, I've navigated between short cuts (like yours) and I-want-them-to-grow-back-to-make-fancy-braids phases. But, once my hair are long enough to do said braids, I get tired of them. And here goes that cycle again!

I recently had them cut, but definitely not short enough. I plan on going back to the hairdresser before september comes to have them cut a bit like yours. Just like you, I feel more like myself and more free with short hair. It all depends on the person, I guess.

PS: It REALLY suits you! Loving that haircut! :)

  2. I am so glad to hear I'm not the only one! I feel like the crazy girl for not wanting long hair so I'm happy to hear I'm not alone. I can't wait to see your new cut!!

  3. I'm so lazy in the mornings that I never feel like doing my hair. I luckily have natural curly hair so I spritz some curl spray in it, pin it back (because its thick) and call it a day. I used to have very long hair, but it was such a pain if I ever wanted to do anything with it because it would take so long to blow dry and straighten or curl. Recently I chopped off a good bit of it and have been keeping it pretty short, around the top of my shoulders. I love when I cut it short as I feel refreshed and like a totally new person! I get easily tired of long hair!! Your hair looks so good although it looked great before!! And, yes I think that hair can have that big of an impact!

  4. Girl, you just put into words exactly how I feel! I don't think anything you said is silly at all. I've been thinking recently of chopping my hair off again for pretty much all the reasons you just listed... you may have just pushed me a bit further in that direction! :)

Ps. The cut is so fab on you!
