planting flowers

I gave in. This year I planted flowers! I have always been such a practical gardener but when I realized how much the bee's enjoyed big beautiful flowers I had to give it a shot. I started simple with a few packets of Zinnias, Sunflowers and Nasturtiums. I am so looking forward to have lovely cut flowers on my table but I did not realize I could also have them on my plate! I specifially planted Nasturtium because they are edible flowers! What would make a more beautiful salad than sprinkling a few flowers on top? I planted those a little late in the season but I am hoping they make it! It has only been a little over a week and I am seeing Zinnias sprout up everywhere!

If you are like me and never ventured into planting flowers it's not too late! I picked up a few packets of Zinnias for a mere $1.50 a piece so if they don't make it I won't be devastated. They just need a lot of sun so if you have a small sunny spot throw down and few seeds and give it a try!

  1. Aren't the nasturtium sprouts with their lil leaves so adorable???? I'm also growing these this year for the first time, they have little buds on them and I'm so excited!

  2. How cute! I love planting flowers in the spring. Half the time I cheat and buy them already grown. But this year I planted little lavender seedlings and I can't wait to see them grow!

  3. I've never tried lavender from seed! Let me know how it turns out! I'm usually a little late planting too so transplants are always a friend of mine!
