the clean team

One of the best things I have done to simplify my life is making my own cleaning products. It is amazing when you walk down the isles of the supermarket how many varieties of cleaning products there are out there. I hated having an entire cabinet full of different cleaners and I also hated worrying about what was in those cleaning products (want to know why?). About 2 years ago I ditched all commercial cleaners and decided to make my own. It has been amazing and way easier than I had ever imagined. I now have a cabinet barely full of ingredients and I don't think twice about using them on any surface. Also those 6 simple ingredients combine to clean everything from the kitchen counter to the bathtub drain to the carpet. You can get as fancy as you like with your cleaners and add whatever scents you like but I keep it pretty simple (mostly because I am a little cheap). Here are my must haves for making your cleaners and some recipes to help get you started.

Baking Soda - Is there anything it can't do?
Tea Tree Oil - 5 ways to use Tea Tree Oil
Borax - 25 household uses for Borax
Castille Soap - Use it for everything from all purpose cleaner to shampoo
Vinegar - 10 ways to clean with Vinegar
Lemons - Household uses for Lemon

Also in case you missed here is how to make your own laundry detergent and all purpose cleaner!

  1. I am wanting to start doing this! What do you end up storing your cleaning products in after you make them? Also - can you use that laundry detergent in HE washers?

    1. I found spray bottles in the garden section at Target that I have liked using. Some like the laundry detergent I keep in mason jars. Everything I have read about the laundry detergent says it works in all washers too. I have been using it for years now and love it!
