the battle with clutter

Last year Jim and I moved into a house half the size of our last and instead of being worried we were excited. As we packed boxes to go to the new home we found ourselves packing just as many boxes to go straight to Goodwill. We knew when we downsized we could only have what we needed so we took the time to decide that. Now instead of having cabinets full of glasses we have mason jars that double as glasses, travel containers, and are perfect for holding homemade salad dressing. Or in our closet we got rid of half of our jeans and decided to have 1 or 2 pairs we love and nothing more. This is a lifelong process but now on a weekly basis we try and think about how to live lighter and stop weighing ourselves down in clutter. This week, in the spirit of spring cleaning, I am going to share some of what I have learned over the last year of downsizing.

  1. I can't wait to read your posts! We're on our way to a lighter life too. We alreay sold/gave away many many many things last year, and we're doing the same thing this year (with flea market season coming in, we'll be busy!). It feels so great to declutter everything. My head feels lighter now, and it will get even more lighter as the months go by!

I'm planning on writing a post on this too, since I'm in a huge spring cleaning frenzy right now. :)

PS: Such a cute little house! :)

  3. pick me!! cleaning tip - grow your own au naturel sponges! I'm trying out the luffa gourd this summer and I'd better get some mean green scrubby-machines outta that plant.

  4. I love downsizing. My favorite thing is spring cleaning but it always takes so long! I need a good long weekend off to dedicate to spring cleaning. Living much simpler is a happy way of life!
