the fair trade shoe

I always enjoy seeing shops with a mission succeed and when one of my friends introduced me to Sole Rebels I had to find out more. Soul Rebel Footwear is the world's first fair trade green footwear company and their story is really inspiring.

The company was started by one woman, Bethlehem Tilahun Alemu, in the poor community of Zenabwork, Ethiopia. It started with just $10,000 and is now one of Ethiopias most thriving businesses. It has has expanded to 75 employees and more than 200 local suppliers of raw materials. Even with all the success, Sole Rebel is committed to remaining fair trade and pays their staff up to four times Ethiopia's average wage. They are even looking to expand to a larger manufacturing plant that will employ over 300 people! It is amazing how one person can change a community and I love Alemu's commitment to that.

Not only are these shoes better for the environment and their community, they are really cool! My favorite are the Moc Up's in red...
