honey experiment #2

One of my favorite things to do for my skin is exfoliate. I am not one of those with naturally lovely, soft skin so this is one of my go to treatments to create it. I got spoiled months ago when I won this body scrub and I haven't been able to find anything that compares since. That scrub unfortunately went way to quickly because my sweet, unknowing husband thought it was the new soap. It was a terrible waste of such a fabulous product.

Since that exfoliator experience I have been on search for affordable options. I am not one to spend $20 on a non necessity so I quickly jumped to the diy route. I realized that honey related products are all over the skin care market and I do have lots of honey so lets start there! I ended up finding lots of options that all involve ingredients that I have around the house but this one sounded too good to be true. Two of my favorite items in one... honey and coffee! I simply saved the grounds from my french press a few mornings + honey and an orange and viola! I have my very own exfoliator.

You may have perfect skin already and be wondering if it is worth it for you. The benefits of exfoliation is it kick-starts your skin's renewal system. It removes dead cells and uncovers the fresher skin that's waiting underneath. If you want to try, you can exfoliate pretty regularly depending on how sensitive your skin is (most people can tolerate a daily scrub). Your face is different story though and should be limited to once a week until you know how your skin reacts. The most important thing is to always apply a moisturizer after exfoliating to keep freshly scrubbed skin soft.

DIY Coffee Zest Body Scrub
1/2 cup used coffee grounds
1/2 cup honey
1 Tbsp. fresh orange zest

Mix ingredients together in a container and rub mixture into skin with your hands or a washcloth, using upward strokes, for one to three minutes.
